Air Conditioners Review

what causes an inside air conditioner unit to leak water onto the floor?

I have a central heat and air unit. The inside part is leaking water in the floor when I run the air conditioner. What could be the problem?

That’s condensation from the A/C removing humidity from the air.
There should be a hose that runs from the unit, shut it down, look where the hose is attached, and see if you can unclog it.
Maybe you can push a coat hanger in or something.
If the hose goes into a small black box that has another coming out, that’s a condensate pump. Make sure the pump is plugged in, and has power to it. If it does, and it’s full of water, either the pump is no good, the float switch is no good, or the float switch could be hung-up on some debris. Or it could be what Zacharia said…..
    You can do it.

A/C freezing-up is leading to condensation dripping on the floor. Call a serviceman.

zak and do it are on the right track,, check to see if its not freezing the coils,, if not its just condensation and you should have a drain house going from the drain pan out the floor,, put as much clorox as you can in the drain pan. after this runs thru add add another cup or two. sometimes algae builds up in the drain pipe and blokes the water flow!

if the condensate line is clear you might want to use
a condensation pump to help it along its path out
    out of your house

    all good answers ,reasons are:
    dirty filter
    low refridgerant (frozen coil)
    fan not running
    dirty coil in a/h
    clogged cond. drain line
A dirty coil will cause what appears to be a drain problem but due to lack of air flow through the coil is actually holding water in the system itself. Normally causing a splashing sound and a sound like unit is starving for air
Try clearing drain first, then check coil if possable, look for ice or dirt, check fan,,turn fan from auto to on,if its ok turn back to auto, change filter, check for ice again later if its still frozen call for service/freon is low or coil impacted and needs charging or cleaning.
Also there needs to be a trap to hold water installed on the drain to prevent air from being pulled into the system through the drain line itself.

You’ll want to check whether the unit is installed correctly in your window? If it is at a tilt, there is a chance that the water collected during the air conditioning process is flowing properly to the outside and instead winding up in your room. How long have you had your Central Air Conditioner?
