Can a window air conditioner work without putting it in the window?

I have a single dorm in college and there is no air conditioner and I was wondering if you can buy and put a window air conditioner on a desk instead? will it work?

No. Air conditioners work by removing heat from the room. The end of the air conditioner that sticks out the window is the part that radiates heat. If the whole air conditioner is in the room, it will simply remove the hot air and put it right back in the room.

Also, there is a condensate drain that drains water to the outside of the window. If the whole air conditioner is inside the room, the water will soak anything under the unit.

You can buy a unit that is designed to sit inside the room. They have a hose that goes to a window and are a lot easier to install as long as you have an operable opening window.

No!! it needs to drain for one thing. but they do have portable models that can be used – they are on wheels.

NO IF it is not a portable unit

if its cool air circulation you’re after why not buy a portable fan, you can get them small enough to fit on top of your desk.

Sitting on a desk your air conditioner would be blowing cold air out the front and hot air out the back at the same time. Not doing any good to cool your room.

Hot air blows out the back of the ac. No. it will not work.

There are spot acs. Believe they have a vent that goes out a window.
